In a 2006 sociological review this chart shows how the rise in acceptance of multiple religious groups and homosexuals remains higher than atheists over time. At least the trend is going in the right direction with the younger generations accepting a lack of belief as a reasonable lifestyle choice. The period 1958 to 1999 was marked a significant increase in political acceptance of many minority groups, as shown by the willingness of voters to elect members of each group to the presidency. Despite these increases, […]
Would you go to a church with good music, lectures on scientific topics, and filled with interesting questioning people? KOSU highlighted a Sunday meeting at the Professional Musicians union in Hollywood where this is a regular occurrence. But Zuckerman says Sunday Assembly appeals to more optimistic atheists, those hoping to recreate what they felt was good about religion. “They miss the community, they miss the music, they miss the multigenerational coming together with people that you might not otherwise be hanging out with,” he says. The creationist Ken Ham Debates Bill Nye the science guy in this Video They both present 5 minute opening sequences, and continue to grapple with the definition of science and belief. Ham’s arguments Ham hopes to separate science into present observations and “historical science” that explains geological formations, and origins. He thinks historical science requires a type of faith because there is no way to presently observe it. Instead scientists must rely on “natural laws” that may have been different when the biblical god worked […]
